An account and a workspace each carry an avatar. It appears in the sidebar, the workspace switcher, member lists and deployment attribution. If you signed in with GitHub or GitLab, your account uses that provider’s picture. A workspace linked to a GitHub or GitLab account uses that account’s picture. Anything with neither gets a generated default: a pattern for an account, the workspace’s initial on a coloured tile for a workspace. Uploading replaces whichever of those applies.

Uploading your account avatar

Go to Account. Accounts created with an email and password have no provider picture, so this is where they get one. Choose Upload and pick a PNG or JPEG up to 5 MB. Larger images are scaled down to 512 px on the longest side and converted to JPEG, which also strips camera metadata such as GPS coordinates. Remove appears once you have uploaded one. Removing it restores your provider’s picture, or the generated pattern if you have no linked provider.

Uploading a workspace avatar

Go to Settings → General. This requires the admin or owner role. The upload works the same way. Removing a workspace avatar returns it to the picture from the linked GitHub or GitLab account, or to its initial on a coloured tile if the workspace has no linked account. Renaming a workspace changes that letter.

Where avatars are served from

Uploaded images are served from console.slipway.sh/api/avatars/... and are readable by anyone with the URL, in the same way that github.com/<login>.png is. Do not upload anything you would not publish. Each upload gets a new URL, so a change is visible immediately rather than after a cache expires.
